Happy New Year! (?👀) We’ve got a bunch of big projects happening in 2021. In the coming months, I’ll be starting a bakery from my house, And if the pandemic ever ends, Matt will be moving to Houston for his work. So from here on out, Sunshine + Microbes will be delivered to your inbox on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month.
In the meantime, I’m organizing a bunch of super cool virtual stuff in January! All the details below.
love,
Jackie
🥳 Upcoming Events
weekly virtual kitchen workshops
I can’t wait to for a future in which in-person classes are a thing again. For now, I’ll be hosting a fun and educational kitchen party on Zoom every Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in January (and maybe longer, if you’re into it?).
Each class will cover a different topic to level up your cooking game. You can choose to make the recipe alongside me, or just pour yourself a glass of wine, sit back, and soak up that kitchen knowledge! Each participant will receive a list of tools and ingredients beforehand along with the zoom link, plus an in-depth recipe pdf and a recording of the demo.
Jan. 13 | Sauerkraut: once you get hooked on homemade kraut, there’s no going back
Jan. 20 | I Heart Salads: Learn the secrets to making delicious dressings and composing the perfect salad
Jan. 27 | Vegan Cream Cheese: I can’t believe it’s just nuts!
🍞🧈 Bread + Butter January
a month of virtual events
I co-organize the Florida Ferment Fest, and I’m curating a full month of virtual programming on two of my favorite things: bread and butter. The schedule features workshops, demos, talks, and interviews with incredible bakers and fermentos. Most of the events are free, but some are ticketed, with proceeds donated to Coalition of Immokalee Workers, a farmworker rights organization.
I am particularly excited for this Sunday’s event, in which Wordloaf’s Andrew Janjigian interviews Sandor Katz about his new book, “Fermentation As Metaphor.” But really, every single event is going to be fab! so mark those calendars!
